New highs for petrol and diesel ensure high costs at the petrol stations. An end is not in sight. Especially on holidays where the demand is high, the rise of the price is noticeable. But how do these prices result and what can we do?
The oil price reaches nearly daily new highs. The main reason for this is the speculation with oil. Fears that oil can exhaust in future pushes the price up although new oil fields are permanently discovered. Furthermore the demand for oi, especially in emerging countries such as China is rising. But the OPEC countries do not want to increase the flow rate with the argument that the maximum capacity had already been exhausted. The weak dollar against the Euro reduces this effect for EU citizens. The prize for these would be even higher if the Euro would be quoted on a deeper level.
But how can the costs of driving be reduced? The answer is to drive in a reasonable and proactive manner. Upshift early in a higher gear and do not drive with high-speed. By long red light periods, switch the engine off. Also the weight of the car has some impact on consumption. The lighter the vehicle, the lower is it. Air conditioning should not run always as it is a real energy guzzler especially when the car is heating up a long time in the sun. Good tires are also important. With these advices you can really save money.
