The company Thorrn Micro Technologies developed a fan without any moving parts. The RSD5 is with a size of 15x15mm and a height of 2mm only a quarter as big as usual fans but moves two or three times more air. The new fan works completely silent, except for the sound of air flow.
Using corona discharge the surrounding air is speed up to 2.4m/s. Mechanical fans create just 0.7 to 1.7m/s.
You refer to a corona when there is a durable flow of ionized air between two electrodes without any discharge of sparks.
The problem of coronal discharge is that ozone (O3) will be created which is gaseous at room temperature and because of its strong oxidizing properties toxic to humans. The manufactures did not announce the discharge of ozone by the fan.
Anyway it have the ability to cool a processor with the power of 25 watts.
