When infection often antibiotic is used. The bacteria killer is not only used in acute emergencies, but also for hamless diseases. This promote the bacterial resistance against antibiotics. For this reason more effective antibiotics have to be developed. Researchers discovered now that the production of antibiotics could be easier then exspected.

When infectious diseases triggered by bacteria usually antibiotics are used to cambat the bacterial infection or infection by protozoa. Antibiotics are low metabolicproducts created by fungi or bacteria, to inhibit or even kill other micro-organisms. Penicilin is the best-known antibiotic, extracted from mold. Today antibiotics are produced semi-synthetic or even full-synthetic. A big problem is the growing resistance of bacteria to antibiotics, often encountered in hospitals. Trigger for resistances may be that atibiotic treatments are aborted too early or be used for inappropriate purposes. For this reasen the researchers have to create more effective antibiotics by chemically change of older once or creating new agents. This is very expensive and sometimes not successful.

Now MIT researchers found out using a gen sequencing that completely harmless bacteria have the genes for enzymes, to produce effective antibiotics. Among steril laboratory conditions they had no reason to use thier weapons. For this reason researchers irritate the bacteria by suspending competing bacteria. The result was, that Rhodostreptomycin was discovered, capable to kill whole range of bacteria. (heise)
